Summary

The Machine Shop Supervisor - Night Shift is responsible for executing the nightly production plans within the internal Machine Shop. This position is also responsible for adjusting personnel to accomplish critical tasks when absences occur. In addition, the Machine Shop Supervisor - Night Shift is responsible for timely notifying the maintenance team if production equipment is not performing properly. This is a key position within the leadership team and is routinely required to work effectively with personnel from engineering, quality, warehouse, and supply chain departments. Being able to achieve desired results without direct supervisory authority is key to the success of this position. Work primarily takes place in a machine shop floor environment, however occasional visits to the office are required. Work may include responding to critical customer driven situations which may result in working some weekends, holidays, and after normal business hours.


Essential Functions

  • Learn the processes and products and become a "student of the business".
  • Coordinate with Machine Shop Manager and Master Scheduler to execute a daily production plan for each month.
  • Verify material availability for production orders either directly or with the warehouse team.
  • Ensure adequate hourly manpower is available to support production requirements.
  • Directly Supervise 5-10 hourly machine shop operators.
  • Drive consistent improvement of employee productivity via hands-on leadership and supervision.
  • Provide daily feedback of actual production performance versus schedule to all machine shop employees.
  • Continually monitor and report daily status of production orders on the shop floor.
  • Lead or directly perform accurate and timely internal job order processing on the ERP system.
  • Utilize analysis skills and work with Machine Shop Manager to determine root causes of quality issues and implement actions to resolve them.

Supplemental Duties

  • Comply with Disaster preparedness and Emergency Procedures.
  • Follow ISO type process work instructions and procedures.
  • Actively comply with company safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure the highest level of process compliance and accuracy are maintained for all activities.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate
  • 3-5 years of machine shop leadership experience, supervising and developing people.
  • Significant hands-on experience operating within an ERP system utilizing a work order process.
  • Experience completing employee performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High energy personality with a hands-on, lead-by-example leadership style.
  • Professional level written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team to achieve production and departmental goals.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and written instructions to fabricate to exact specifications.
  • Experience enforcing company Safety Procedures
  • Adaptable Team player with positive attitude and ability to speak up as needed; able to think outside the box.
  • Enjoys a challenge.
  • Ability to provide effective feedback on performance, take and provide direction, and adapt to changes.
