Overview: A Heavy Equipment Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of heavy machinery and equipment used in various industries such as construction, demolition, agriculture, and transportation. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and mechanical aptitude to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of heavy equipment. Position will be local with some travel. Mechanic truck will be provided, mechanic to provide tools.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, bobcats, utility trailers and dump trucks.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and fluid checks to ensure equipment longevity and optimal performance.
- Conduct thorough inspections of heavy machinery to identify worn or damaged parts, leaks, and other potential issues.
- Repair or replace defective components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems, using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Welding and fabrication of metal components as needed for repairs or custom modifications.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and service history.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working on heavy equipment, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others.
- Collaborate with dispatch to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules, minimizing downtime.
- Stay updated on advancements in heavy equipment technology, tools, and techniques through training programs and self-study
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or in a similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, diesel engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Welding experience in metal fabrication.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Physical stamina and agility to work in various weather conditions and environments, including tight spaces and at heights.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
