Custodian

We are currently conducting a search for a qualified full-time Custodian. This position is open at the following locations:

• CYC Dorothy Gautreaux Center at 975 E. 132nd St, Chicago, IL 60827

We are seeking experience with the daily cleaning and maintenance of assigned site/sites and grounds, and to perform tasks as directed by the Child Care Director or Center Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Daily Tasks

• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture
• Empty all waste baskets
• Sweep, mop and disinfect floors
• Vacuum Rugs
• Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks and mirrors using established practices and procedure
• Check hand soap, paper towels and tissue dispensers
• Ability to adjust work week to allow for Saturday tasks when needed

As Needed

• Replace light bulbs
• Clean baseboards
• Clean air vents
• Clean light fixtures
• Clean exterior of all dispensers
• Wash Windows
• Follow steps above for all locker rooms and gyms
• Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surfaces floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Spot wash walls
• May shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways, and grounds work (ie: Grass)
• Clean and maintain outside environment of Center; Phillips in front of center, 76th Street side of center, alley where waste canister are located
• Monitor and report safety hazards to supervisor
• Monitor and report needs for building or equipment repairs

• High School Diploma or GED is required
• At least 1-2 years of related experience in cleaning and maintenance
• Must pass criminal background check
• Ability to communicate in English, both in writing and verbally, with staff and members of the public
• Ability to climb ladders
• Ability to travel between various CYC sites
• Skill in using cleaning products and equipment
• Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation
• Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and working relationships
• Helpful
• Basic computer skills
• Bilingual language ability is a plus (Spanish-speaking)
• Knowledge of health, fire and safety codes
