Position Summary

 

The Athletic Trainer in a sports medicine clinic is responsible for providing medical care and support to athletes and individuals participating in sports or physical activities.  The primary role is to prevent, assess, and treat injuries related to sports and exercise.  Overall, the athletic trainer plays a crucial role in promoting the health, well-being and performance of athletes.  They provide comprehensive care, from injury prevention to rehabilitation, and contribute to the overall success of the sports medicine clinic.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs; educate patients, athletes, and coaches on proper techniques and safety measures to reduce the risk of injuries
  •     Assess and evaluate sports-related injuries. Utilize various diagnostic tools and techniques to determine the extent and nature of injuries. Collaborate with providers to develop treatment plans.
  • Administer first aid and emergency care for acute injuries. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for athletes and monitor and track progress throughout the rehabilitation process.
  •     Coordinate with patients and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper management of injuries.  Provide guidance on injury management strategies and make recommendations for return-to-play decisions based on the athlete’s progress and readiness.
  •     Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention, proper nutrition, hydration, and overall wellness.
  •     Maintain accurate and detailed records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.  Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards regarding patient confidentiality and medical documentation.
  •     Develop and implement emergency action plans.
  •     Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to athletes. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  •     Stay updated with the latest research, techniques, and advancements in sports medicine
  •     Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and managing medical records. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to sports medicine services.

 Skills & Abilities

 Education  Bachelor's Degree required in Athletic Training or related field

 Prefer 2 years of experience

 Under required Kansas Licensure, BOC Certification required; CPR certified
