The Public Utility District No. 1 of Skagit County ("PUD") is seeking a Yard Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of heavy manual labor and other tasks in the maintenance and repair of PUD facilities and associated infrastructure.

Work is often performed under adverse working conditions and in all types of weather.

Essential Duties

Vegetation management, including mowing grass, weed eating, trimming, pruning, and generally maintaining landscaped areas at PUD facilities.

Facilities maintenance, including pressure washing, some painting, clearing debris, and general cleanup.

Cleaning the yard and equipment as directed

Assisting other Operations staff on various projects, running drop offs and pickups as needed, unloading freight and work-yard organization.

Assemble and monitor the inventory of rain barrels.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management, initiative, and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to safely tow and maneuver a trailer behind a truck, which may be hauling a riding lawn mower, a remote mower, and/or associated tools.
  • Ability to operate a zero-turn lawnmower and remote operated mower.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other departments, employees, outside entities, and landowners. Must be able to form effective and respectful working relationships.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. The ability to speak and read Spanish is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in using a variety of software, hardware, and technology-based tools as determined to be required for the job.
  • Valid WA State Driver's License - CDL if appropriate.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, balancing, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, twisting, gripping, driving, stooping, crouching, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbent must have the ability to hear emergency communications and commands. Requires ability to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.

Compensation

This is a Union-represented position and is subject to the most current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The full salary range for a Yard Maintenance Technician is $28.07 - $32.55 per hour. Hiring wage will depend on experience and qualifications

Skagit PUD offers a complete benefits package including medical/dental/vision (no cost to employee/dependents), life and disability coverage, PERS and Teamsters pension, deferred compensation, generous paid time off, holidays, and more. Benefits are equivalent to over 60% in additional compensation.

NOTE: Under the current collective bargaining agreement, all represented employees have $3.25 per hour of their hourly wage diverted into a separate Teamsters pension, which was voted and agreed to by the current members.
