Location: 257 N. 4th St. Rear, Gettysburg, PA 17325

Pay: $18.00 with *WEEKLY* paychecks

Schedule: days on, 4 days off

  • 5 or 6 PM -- 10:15 PM in the Spring/Summer/Fall
  • 5 or 6 PM -- 8:30 PM in the Winter
  • (Additional hours available, if desired.)

Requirement(s):

  • CDL Class A or B, Passenger Endorsement, Air Brake Restriction Lifted

Job Summary (Role in organization):

The position is critical in assisting rabbittransit in meeting our mission of mobility. The impact of public transportation runs much deeper than a trip from point A to point B. This position is responsible for operating a van/bus to transport passengers in a safe and courteous manner according to published routes and timetables. The driver is responsible for driving defensively and reacting to emergency situations to ensure the safety of the passengers and the safety of the general public. Work includes completion of vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate records, assisting passengers as required including wheelchair securements, receiving and accounting for fares, radio communications, following emergency procedures, and other activities as assigned by the Operations Supervisor/ Site Manager. The driver is responsible for meeting all attendance requirements according to bid (if applicable), CBA (if applicable), policy, and safety emergency response situations. CPTA is the County Emergency responder (if applicable to that division). Available for forms of other transportation systems as needed (if applicable to that division).

Key/Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Operations Supervisor/Site Manager. This position receives training, general supervision and works according to standards.

  • Ability to keep mentally alert and maintain concentration.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and demonstrated ability to operate and drive transit vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to Authority rules, procedures, directions, funding guidelines, DOT regulations and PA traffic regulations.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation with the ability to deal courteously, sensitively, and effectively with the public. Adherence to regulations; harassment/discrimination policy/guidelines..
  • Ability to manage one's own time and to follow a schedule to meet deadlines..
  • Ability to enforce all CPTA rules and procedures with passengers.
  • Must meet hiring qualifications including but not limited to, minimum of 23 years of age with additional criteria, acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with CPTA standards.
  • Must have regular attendance and punctuality.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License class "B" operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage.
  • Must possess a valid DOT medical card. (Will send for such if given contingent job offer.)
  • This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
