The IT Production Support Assistant works under the direction of a team lead or section manager to support production applications running in mainframe and midrange computing environments. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting production jobs in mainframe and mid-range server environments, including job creation, scheduling, execution, and troubleshooting job issues.
- Assisting with mainframe COBOL applications using a source code storage and compilation tool to promote program packages and members as requested by application developers.
- Occasionally participating in paired programming for knowledge sharing and training.
- Reviewing and submitting procedural documentation and contributing to team presentations to build skills and expertise.
- Managing incident tickets with a tracking software application, updating each incident or request with actions taken and resolutions.
- Coordinating the operation of the mainframe console, assigning devices, responding to operator messages, and managing input and output devices by executing jobs per predefined schedules, while adhering to computer operation standards.
- Performing various tasks during shifts in a 24/7/365 full coverage environment.
Required Skills:
The IT Production Support Assistant must have:
- Experience and knowledge in customer service, flexibility, interpersonal skills, leadership, organizational awareness, problem-solving, and excellent communication (both speaking and writing).
- At least two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years working with IBM mainframe operations and production control environments, including ordering, holding, submitting, canceling, and monitoring production jobs using Control-M.
- Two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years working in a data center, interacting with customers, and managing incident tickets with a tracking software application like Cherwell.
- Two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years working with Endevor to move application programs and source elements such as Job Control Language (JCL), Procedures (PROCS), and Control Statements to Endevor libraries.
Education Required:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills Preferred:
- One year of experience operating a commercial high-speed printer, such as a Canon varioPRINT 6220 TITAN MICR, for large volume jobs.
