SUMMARY:

The Lead Medical Assistant is required to perform all duties of the medical assistant, function as the resource person to the non-licensed and non-clinical staff, and acts as the liaison between Management and staff. Primarily responsible for the onboarding and mentorship of new medical assistants. Works in conjunction with other clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring efficient patient care, and workflow. In the absence of the Nursing Supervisor, will provide direction, planning and coordination of daily activities. The Lead Medical Assistant is expected to have strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consistently applies the Brown Urology values of patient care with priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity, and quality in support of the Brown Urology mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care. Responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with Brown Urology’s Code of Conduct and consistently practices Brown Urology’s Customer Service Standards.

  • Onboarding and precepting new medical assistants in all duties of the Medical Assistant position.
  • Completes orientation/safety/skills and annual competency checklist.
  • Develops and communicates effective provider and staff schedules. Ensures patient schedules are appropriately supported by medical assistant staff.
  • Work in conjunction with the Nurse Supervisor to ensure adequate coverage as well as ensuring lunch coverage.
  • Ensure all quality protocols are performed and followed through by the medical assistants, proper data entry of all vitals and other necessary documentation in the EMR as well as performance of all other quality programs assigned.
  • Prepare examination rooms for physician needs during office hours while maintaining proper cleaning, upkeep, and stocking of supplies in examination rooms.
  • Proper handling, cleaning, and disposal of all contaminated instruments and/or materials as mandated by OSHA.
  • Ensures continuity of physicians’ schedules.
  • Assist secretarial staff with other duties as necessary in maintaining efficiency in all office responsibilities.
  • Responsible for any other duties, clinical or administrative, as may be assigned by the nurse supervisor and/or management team.
  • Daily workflow troubleshooting in absence of nursing supervisor to ensure an efficient day for provider and staff.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High school diploma or GED

Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or demonstrated experience of a minimum of five years’ experience gained through prior employment.

National certification preferred.

2 years of relevant urology/surgery experience either in a hospital or office setting.

Medical terminology knowledge.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions necessary to maintain a safe work environment.

Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively.

Ability to represent the organization and serve customers in a professional manner and the ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with patients, physicians, supervisors and peers.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Conditions common to a clinical practice environment including potential exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, and hazardous materials. Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times.
