Position Title: Lead - Fabrication

Location: Tacoma

Shift: Day 5:00am - 3:30pm M-TH

JOB SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for the daily coordination of assigned boat build/ area. This includes training and monitoring production work of a small group of team members. In addition, this position will be responsible for providing a safe work environment, ensuring work is being performed to SAFE Boats standards, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, identifying and resolving quality issues, identifying and assisting in implementing standard work, addressing lost time production issues, collecting data and maintaining visual displays, and filling in for absent team members on an as needed basis per supervisor’s request. Leads work closely with department Supervisors and communicate with them daily regarding their assigned boat builds and teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Trains and develops existing team members. Communicates company philosophies and policies, teaches and demonstrates work routines
  • Trains and mentors newer Team Members
  • Conduct daily tier 1 meetings with team member crew, and uses tier system to escalate concerns regarding boat builds
  • Determines and provides daily project/work instructions for their team
  • Maintains records of day-to-day activity including time and process steps
  • Working in conjunction with scheduling and other leads/leaders, creates and manages feedback on a weekly work plan
  • Provides direction to and resolves issues for their boat build team throughout the shift
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment and tools that improve workflow, efficiency, and team member safety. Drives and implements approved changes under the direction of the Supervisor.
  • May set up and/or verify settings on production machines and equipment
  • Communicates information effectively, timely, and accurately to supervisors and managers
  • Communicates information effectively, timely, and accurately to team members
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of team member’s work
  • Prepares work for QA inspection
  • Ensures boat build milestones are met
  • Reports major issues to supervisor
  • Problem solves minor issues
  • Assist in developing new procedures and standards

  • Report’s information related to team member’s performance to supervisor and manager- including exceptional performance, misconduct, and work quality
  • Acts as an active, functioning member of the boat build team, is a working lead when not performing other responsibilities listed above
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position

Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior knowledge in SBI operations practices
  • Sufficient mathematic skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in most complex tasks
  • Works with minimal supervision
  • Capable of training team members with limited supervision
  • Leads by example for all team members to follow
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with their team members and other citizens of SAFE Boats
  • Ability to mediate minor conflict between members of their team effectively
  • Has participated in developing and maintaining standards and procedures
  • Adheres to all procedures and safe work practices
  • Assists in basic problem solving with less experienced team members
  • Possess the ability to organize priorities and multitask accordingly
  • Drives and leads the Team to meet production schedule and timelines
  • Monitors and continually works to improve morale
  • Ability to operate a computer/tablet and/or desire to learn

Required Experience & Education:

  • A minimum of 5+ years related experience inside or outside of SAFE Boats, or in a related field
  • Requires a working knowledge in the usage of production machinery, common hand tools, handheld power tools and equipment
  • The position requires a complete understanding of all SBI’s processes and procedures in the area of assignment to organize a small work team, train team members, examine work results, and assemble equipment
  • Requires communication and soft skills to effectively conduct one-on-one training and provide work instructions to a team
  • First aid training preferred, must acquire certification within 6 months in the role
  • Requires sufficient problem-solving skills to troubleshoot situations such defective parts, equipment or designs issued, tool and equipment problems, while maintaining productivity
  • High School Diploma or GED; Vocational School, Technical School or Military Training or equivalent work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Grasping, writing, reading, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, stooping, squatting, and stretching to complete tasks
  • Listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Must be able to work at heights and/or confined spaces
  • Forklift and scissor lift operations
  • Ability or willingness to learn how to use a computer/tablet, telephone, and other office equipment, if assigned
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
