Summary: The Yard Jockey is responsible for moving trailers to and from dock doors based on instructions from supervisors or the shipping office while following all regulatory and company safety standards, policies, and procedures. Jockey

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.

Keep yard organized and clean.

Ensure the cleanliness and adequate fueling of trailers.

Check/set trailer and yard temperature and add fuel as needed.

Perform daily inspections on spotter truck and equipment.

Report defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damages to the vehicles and/or equipment.

Maintain logs of trailer movements and fuel.

Communicate with appropriate departments on daily movements of trailers.

Check trailer inventory and report any irregularities on log forms.

Perform sanitation duties on trailers as assigned.

Additional responsibilities and job duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Yard Jockey does not have supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

• Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
• Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
