Animal Care and Experience is a team of those driven daily to provide industry-leading complete care. This role is routine yet unpredictable, highly physical, and emotionally complex. There are many rewards and of course challenges. If this role sounds like a fit for you, here are more details:


Day in the Life:

  • Open up assigned animal area(s)
  • Conduct welfare checks, complete related computer/paperwork, and report any concerns
  • Set your day up for success by gathering supplies and prioritizing care duties
  • Clean all kennels timely and per set standards
  • Provide required enrichment, including walking dogs or cat socialization
  • Work alongside and guide volunteers and new team members
  • Clean walkways, dog yards, and other animal spaces
  • Tidy up kennels and animal areas throughout the day
  • Complete laundry, dish, and trash duties multiple times
  • Restock area to ensure all supplies are at set pars and put away
  • Feed animals in accordance with set protocols
  • Move animals as directed; this can occur several times daily
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all established workflows to ensure the needs of the animals, the department, and the organization are met.
  • Observe animals brought into the Arizona Humane Society for signs of illness and behavior pattern changes. Report those changes promptly as outlined, including entering correct information into the computer and on kennel cards.
  • Work with and assist Animal Experience volunteers.
  • Clean and sanitize facility and animal habitats according to outlined procedures and timelines, including emptying garbage, washing dishes, laundry, dog yards, and walkway sanitization daily.
  • Feed, water, and maintain habitats in accordance with departmental and organizational standards at all times.
  • Complete all assigned daily enrichment tasks, which include the delivery enrichment, printing reports, and documenting the completion of tasks.
  • Have and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all animal care and experience procedures.
  • Handle all animals humanely per our low-stress and fear-free standards; correctly use safety equipment if necessary.
  • Understand and adhere to all set cleaning, chemical, handling, and safety procedures.
  • Restock and maintain supply count in all animal areas.
  • Assist in training of new staff members.
  • Move animals as required, update kennel located in the computer and move the paperwork to the appropriate place.
  • Follow Standards of Care items outlined.
  • Ensure internal and external customers receive an Excellent Experience Every time.
  • Demonstrate Innovation, Compassion, and Excellence at all times.
  • Support the overall mission of Animal Experience by ensuring all AHS animals receive: kindness, compassion, low stress handling, positive interactions, mental stimulation, and physical exercise daily.

Qualifications:

Education / Certifications / Licenses:

  • High school diploma/GED

Experience:

  • Customer service or animal experience preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Language - Able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Mathematical - Basic

Technical - computer- basic


Other:

Regular attendance, punctuality, and access to reliable transportation are required.
