Position: Surgical Tech

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist, also known as a Surgical Tech, is responsible for assisting surgeons and other healthcare professionals in the operating room. They prepare the operating room, arrange surgical equipment and instruments, and assist with surgical procedures. The Surgical Tech ensures a sterile environment during surgeries and maintains patient safety throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are sterilized and available.
  2. Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and suctioning as needed.
  3. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist in maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure.
  4. Count sponges, needles, and other instruments before and after surgery to ensure no items are left inside the patient.
  5. Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare team members to ensure efficient and safe patient care.
  6. Monitor and maintain surgical equipment, including sterilization and proper functioning.
  7. Transport patients to and from the operating room and assist with positioning on the operating table.
  8. Clean and restock operating rooms after procedures, following established protocols for infection control.
  9. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including safety regulations and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  10. Participate in continuing education and training to stay updated on surgical techniques, equipment, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a surgical technology program preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or in a related role preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and respond quickly to changing situations.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and sterile techniques.
