Job Summary:

The Manager directs, plans, coordinates, and administers Health Information Management functions for the hospital, supervises staff, and manages all department operations. The manager also supports the HIM Director in special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, interviewing, conducting performance evaluations, providing disciplinary action, and recommending salary increases for subordinate staff.

Develops department goals and objectives, establishes/implements policies and procedures for daily operations.

Offers input into the operating and capitol budgets.

Ensures medical record systems are in compliance with institutional policies and standards of various accrediting and regulatory agencies.

Oversees the orientation and training of new employees.

Ensures availability of records and reports for various committee and administrative reviews.

Manages department software applications, demonstrating thorough understanding of system and working with IS and vendors to maximize productivity.

Acts as the Director in his/her absence.

Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in related field, registration from an accredited program in medical record administration (RHIA or RHIT) is preferred.

Three (3) to five (5) years experience in a supervisory role and medical records technical functions, or equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly recommended.

Excellent human relations and communications skills required.

Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and automated health information management systems is preferred.
