Position Summary:
- The Licensing Specialist (LS) manages assessments, credentialing, and licensing for foster parents and Extended Family Homes (EFH). Responsibilities include evaluating qualifications for fostering individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring compliance with KVC and DHHS standards, overseeing licensing renewals, maintaining records, tracking progress, and supporting ongoing recruitment efforts in a dynamic environment.
Location:

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field. A Bachelor’s in Social Work is preferred.
Experience:
- Two years of home assessment and licensing experience preferred.
Licensing/Certification:
- Valid Auto Insurance
- Valid Drivers License
- At least 21 years old
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
75% Assessment, Preparation, and Licensing:
- Collaborate with recruiters, TIPS-MAPP/DT leaders, PA staff, and DD staff to assess potential foster families and EFH’s. Provide written assessments and recommendations for sponsorship and fostering. Manage transfer inquiries and ensure compliance with DHHS standards. Handle DHHS and KVC credentialing/licensing paperwork for initial and renewal processes.
10% Recruitment/Retention:
- The Licensing Specialist (LS) focuses on recruiting and retaining Foster Families and Extended Family Homes (EFH) crucial to KVC's mission. LS actively engages in community and advocacy group meetings to promote KVC foster parenting and EFH opportunities. Collaborating with the KVC team, LS develops retention strategies and organizes appreciation events with CPA and DD staff.
15% Administration:
- Collaborate with CPA and DD teams to assess ongoing foster care and EFH needs. Maintain records, track families from inquiry to licensing, and document progress. Meet agency goals for retention and recruitment.
Preferred Knowledge
- Completed required training and educational prerequisites.
- Understands Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice, and Developmental Disabilities systems in Nebraska.
- Familiar with child and adolescent psychiatric diagnoses (DSM 5).
- Proficient in strengths-based, solution-focused, and home-based interventions.
- Knowledgeable about community-based (wraparound) resources.
- Adheres to policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
