We are in search of a Seasoned Substance Abuse Counselor to provide support for our Outpatient and Residential Programs in Baltimore, MD. We are in need of a proficient individual to inspire and assist clients with conquering obstacles with regard to their treatment. The Counselor will be responsible for evaluating and offering individual and collective counseling, recommendations, information, and tutoring to customers needing assistance with substance abuse issues. Compensation:

$26 - $35 hourly

Responsibilities:

  • Provides multidimensional assessment and clinical evaluation, including diagnostic impression and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
  • Completes and maintains accurate records or reports regarding clients' history and progress, services provided, or other required information
  • Counsels clients to assist in overcoming barriers, adjusting to life, and/or making changes and refers clients to community or social service programs as appropriate
  • Assists clients in removing barriers to treatment by seeking psychiatric evaluation, coordinating medical stabilization, applying for health insurance, seeking grant funding for treatment services, and/or collaborating with clients’ natural supports when necessary
  • Interviews clients, review records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate individuals' mental and physical conditions to determine the appropriate level of care
  • Through follow-ups, reviews and evaluates clients' progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment or action plans
  • Intervenes as an advocate for clients to resolve imminent problems in crisis situations
  • Coordinates follow-through with mental health professionals, courts, probation officers, community services, or other post-treatment agencies
  • Collaborates with other professionals to assess client needs and/or plan treatments
  • Provides clients or community members with information about addiction issues and about available services or programs, making appropriate referrals when necessary
  • Counsels family members or other concerned parties to assist them in understanding, coping with, and supporting individuals misusing substances
Qualifications:

One of the following licensures or certifications is required:

  • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)
  • Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LGADC)
  • Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD)
  • Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD)
  • Addiction Trainee (ADT)

All must have

  • Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized ASAM processes
  • Basic knowledge of substance abuse and dual diagnosis is essential. The individual is responsible for ensuring that clinical and administrative services are provided for patients and their families
