Position Summary:

Mixes chemicals to prepare batches of product, tests batches, operates various machinery and moves raw materials.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Become skilled at mixing the ingredients/proportions for each of the products made.
  • Learn how to operate each of the production lines and troubleshoot minor issues.
  • Perform changeovers, which involves draining lines to eliminate cross contamination of products.
  • Complete periodic testing of different batches to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Assist the Line Lead (as needed) with various equipment operations.
  • Complete required paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Communicate with other department employees (including management) about production needs. This includes interacting with maintenance as issues arise and working to resolve problems.
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of the work area, which includes hands-on cleaning to support safety regulations.
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the Supervisor / Plant Manager
  • Comply with plant rules & safety regulations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Standing / Walking 67-100% of the time
  • Cutting, lifting, and emptying bags weighing up to 56 lbs. 67-100% of the time
  • Bending / Squatting / Kneeling and reaching above shoulders 67-100% of the time
  • Move barrels weighing up to 300 lbs. with a barrel dolly 34-66% of the time
  • Transport pallets of chemicals with electrical pallet jack, forklift, or barrel dolly 34-66% of the time
  • Visually examine/inspect materials and products to ensure that quality control standards are met

Position Qualification Requirements

Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Training is provided by the Supervisor, Lead and other Mix employees.

Experience:

  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to understand English.
  • Possess good mathematical ability.
  • Ability to follow directives from the Plant Manager, Department manager & supervisor.
  • Follow instructions and comply with safety rules

Machines, Tools, Equipment & Work Aids (note: this list may not be all inclusive)

  • Electric pallet jack, hi-lift, pallet jack, and barrel dolly
  • Various testing equipment
  • Equipment used to mix chemicals and dye

License/Certifications

  • Pass the hi-lift driving certification per union contract (provided by the Company).

Computer Skills

  • Operate the computer programs on the production equipment.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:

  • This position involves walking in the production areas and moving various items.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving of items weighing up to 300 lbs.
  • Good visual acuity to inspect material/batches.
  • Hearing for safety purposes around machinery.

Work Environment:

  • This position is in a manufacturing environment using chemicals. The environment can be dusty.
  • Mix personnel must wear steel toed shoes while working.
  • While performing certain jobs, Mix personnel are required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection and N95 masks.
  • Gloves are mandatory for all department personnel while working.
