Overview
BB Energy is seeking a highly skilled Contracts Specialist to draft, review and file oil and gas-related sales, purchase, and storage agreements. This role ensures BB Energy is fully and legally protected and that all contracts are consistent with our in-house systems to prevent P&L losses and ensure the correct issuance of documentaries and financial instruments. The Contracts Specialist will also provide advice to traders and operators, highlighting potential problems and suggesting remedies to mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and review contracts for the physical movement of oil and gas, ensuring they accurately reflect trades.
- Ensure all contracts are consistent with the in-house system to prevent P&L losses and to ensure correct issuance of documentary/financial instruments.
- Process and review contractual amendments, including commercial terms, operational terms, payment provisions, laytime and demurrage provisions, and legal provisions.
- Liaise with traders, operators, and other internal departments to highlight potential risks in transactions and provide advice to mitigate these risks.
- Assist in the implementation and administration of a contract management system, including development and maintenance of contract templates.
- Serves as Custodian of Records for all contracts and develops and maintains database for tracking all assigned contracts and related documents.
- Validate transactions against trader recaps, broker confirmations and counterparty contracts
- Prepare and send outgoing contacts
- Receive and review incoming contracts for errors and sending responses as needed
- Maintain records of internal and external contractual correspondence
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of the application of Incoterms 2000, 2010, and 2020, particularly regarding FOB, CFR, CIF, DES, DDU, DDP, DAT, DAP, and DPU.
- Knowledge of the practical application of contracts for the physical movement of oil and gas, including laytime and demurrage within a contract.
- Good understanding of legal clauses applicable to physical delivery contracts, including force majeure, limitation of liability, assignability, default and liquidation, and waivers.
- Sound experience in the movement of commodities both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in contracts department at an oil and gas company.
- Proven experience in preparing and reviewing oil and gas contracts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with traders, operators, and other internal departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in law, business, economics, related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
