Overview: Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking to fill a Middle School Music teaching position. We seek an energetic, curious teacher who wants to inspire students to learn more about themselves and the world around them.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the Mission of the School and put that vision into daily practice.

  • Teach two sections of 6th grade Music class which meet for three periods per week

  • Teach one section of 7th & 8th grade Show Choir, which meets two to three periods per week

  • Teach one section of Middle School Chorus, which meets twice a week

  • Manage extracurricular music lessons with adjunct faculty

  • Ability to provide keyboard accompaniment when needed

  • Attend departmental and/or divisional meetings as assigned.

  • Collaborate closely with Upper and Lower School Music faculty to support the creation of a vertically aligned curriculum.

  • Prepare and organize multiple performances throughout the year to showcase student progress and talent.

Position Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in music or a related field.

  • 1-3 years experience as a middle/upper school teacher.

  • Personal and professional alignment to the school’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and anti-bias education in all aspects of the work with Middle School students, families, and colleagues.

  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.


Terms of Employment:

  • This is a 10-month, teaching position.

  • Teachers commit to attendance at faculty meetings and other school-wide meetings and events.
