A large private telecommunications system (WAN) is owned and operated in California, supporting long-term business operations and customer requirements, electrifying the state, managing water resources, and bringing broadband internet to rural areas. We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate individual to join our Telecommunications Engineering Team. In this role, you will contribute to network routing and architectural design, prepare upgrade roadmaps, and influence the technological direction of our telecommunication system. This is a highly technical position that requires network design experience and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Propose and design moderately complex to complex Layer 2 and 3 network systems that carry critical data, including topology diagrams and detailed configuration scripts for implementation.
  • Lead capital projects independently and act as a project consultant and specialist.
  • Maintain a strategic outlook and product roadmap for industry trends, technology changes, developments, and obsolescence within the Telecom Network.
  • Identify actual or potential problems, investigate, analyze, and develop corrective actions, drafting mitigation strategies, including proposing capital projects for correction.
  • Serve as a resource and training asset for those less skilled in IP protocols and technologies.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of engineering principles, procedures, equipment, and systems.

Qualifications:

  • Nine or more years of experience in designing and/or operating networks or relevant experience.
  • A degree in information technology, computer science, or a relevant field may substitute certain years of experience according to guidelines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP technologies such as MPLS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, SD-WAN, VPLS, and VPRN.
  • Extensive Layer 2 and Layer 3 experience.
  • Experience with Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and other vendors.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
