JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the resort complex. Ensures timely completion of postings to the general ledger and month end reconciliations. Ensures assets are properly safeguarded in accordance with policies and procedures. Assists the Chief Financial Officer in preparing accurate and timely financial reports. Provides oversight to Cage/Vault and Drop department operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide excellent Guest Service to guests, internal and external, through active guest engagement and positive attitude.
  • Hire, train, mentor, administer corrective action, and terminate members of the accounting team as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with reviewing and approving all purchasing transactions and payment requests in the accounting information system.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliations are completed timely and accurately including various balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile the local government A/P account (2%) to ensure accurate gaming distributions are made to local units of government. Work with the Tribal Treasurer to ensure timely payments are properly approved and disbursed.
  • Prepare and submit NIGC Gaming reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis as requested by the Chief Financial Officer and/or the PEFC.

  • Prepare the accounting department budget. Assist other directors and managers with their budgets as needed. Assist the Chief Financial Officer as requested to help prepare and present the annual budget for approval.
  • Respond to department director and executive management questions regarding purchases, budgets, capital expenditures or other accounting related issues.

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in completing the annual external financial statement audit efficiently and timely. Coordinate submission of MICS agreed upon procedures requests for information. Assist in the completion of the internal audit with Lac Vieux Deserts Gaming Regulatory Commission. Respond to all auditor requests timely and professionally.
  • Manage user accounts in the accounting information system and help resolve any user access issues.

Shall be required to read, implement, and adhere to all NWCR Policies and Procedures, LVD Gaming Ordinance, Tribal/State Gaming Compact, NIGC Minimum Internal Control Standards, Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, LVD Tribal Internal Control Standards, Title 31 Minimum Internal Control Standards, NWCR Casino Employee Handbook, Accounting Department Policy and Procedure Manual

  • Provide leadership, guidance and oversight to the Cage/Vault and Drop departments. Ensure the departments are operating efficiently and managers have the resources needed to be successful.
  • All other duties as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.

To remain in compliance with Casino Regulatory policies and procedures, employees are required to attend all necessary meetings and trainings facilitated by Management.

  • Oversee necessary reconciliation of financial information, required submissions on behalf of the PEFC related to the PEFCs MGCB Operators License governed by LIGA and LSBA.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls developed by contracted platform provider as well as other MGCB licensing compliance requirements related to PEFC MGCB Operators License governed by LIGA and LSBA.
  • Maintain open communication with contracted platform provider to ensure compliant operation under the PEFCs MGCB Operators License, make appropriate reports to PEFC Commission regarding the same.
