Bodyshop Lot Porter Job Description

Position Summary

The Body Shop Lot Porter is responsible for efficiently receiving, moving, arranging, and ensuring the appropriate vehicles are in the requested body shop lane or area. The Lot Porter works closely with various departments within the body shop to maintain car orderliness and streamline the inbound and outbound process. This position requires effective time management, problem-solving skills, and strong communication with team members.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with multiple departments within the body shop to maintain a clear plan for vehicle placement and movement throughout the repair process.
  • Utilizes time effectively, demonstrates strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and maintains open communication with all team members.
  • Stations in the estimating area to help move vehicles quickly while also handling body shop lot porting tasks as they come up.
  • Arranges and parks vehicles in designated body shop lot areas according to designated tasks.
  • Performs specific tasks when moving vehicles into the teardown lane.
  • Prepares daily teardown carts, including identifier folders, part bins, specified cart items, and place them in the appropriate lane.
  • Frequently checks assigned task lists and completes them promptly.
  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of lot porting processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Responsible for moving cars in and out of the body shop to assist in the efficient processing of vehicles through the organization.
  • Create body shop folders for vehicles coming from the Mechanical Shop.
  • Attend frequent meetings with the body shop/estimating team to discuss inventory status and requirements.
  • Communicates vehicle transporting needs effectively through the organization.
  • Oversees and maintains the organization of keys while vehicles are in the body shop.
  • Ensures the body shop is organized, clean, and that items are returned to their designated spaces by the end of the day.
  • Reports vehicle transporting issues promptly to the appropriate department for resolution.
  • Complies with company safety rules, guidelines, and standards.
  • Performs other duties as required to successfully meet the needs and goals of Swift Recon.

Educational

High school diploma or 1-year related experience and/or training

Position Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Under the state of Oklahoma's Unity Bill, this position is classified as a "Safety Sensitive Position" due to the job requirement of driving a vehicle.
  • Strong communication skills written and oral that allowed you to communicate effectively with your team.
  • Read and understand instructions.
  • Multitasking, adapts easily to fast-paced environment.
  • Personable, friendly demeanor with team members
  • Maintain a professional appearance.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions  

The position is based in a normal shop environment. Daily activity as well as repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion and lifting objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull parts, carts, and cars with assistance. Working environment consists of: Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with elevated levels of noise. Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment. Subject to climate changes both inside and outside the facility. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Employee is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of following items: Email account, cell phone service, tablets, computers, all log in's, or any other company services and equipment. Acknowledging the company data and equipment is proprietary and must be submitted upon leaving this position.
