Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Security Department’s chain of command, the Security Officer will perform security services through interaction with the public, patients, and employees. Provides security at specific locations, responds to security issues, provides access assistance as requested, reports suspicious circumstances and emergencies, and completes other duties as assigned. This person is responsible for protection of designated areas to ensure the safety of the public, patients, employees, and property of Roosevelt General Hospital. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Essential Functions

  • Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, to determine that they are secure and not tampered with
  • Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances
  • Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and hospital personnel in event of fire to extinguish fire
  • Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles
  • Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances or reserved parking spaces
  • Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances
  • Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested
  • Answers visitor’s questions concerning locations of various offices, rooms, and other areas within the hospital

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire
  • State of New Mexico Guard Card Level 1, 2 or 3 certification or must be obtained within six (6) months
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language
  • Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license with a clear record

  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

  • Working irregular hours including call hours
  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Position requires moderate to heavy work with 100 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
