T&M Associates is a looking to hire a Principal Planner based out of our Bloomfield, NJ office (hybrid). This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of communities by addressing challenges related to growth, economic development, sustainability, and housing diversity. The ideal candidate will be driven by a passion for inclusive and equitable planning practices, with extensive experience in municipal planning, project management, and staff leadership. This role requires exceptional communication skills, a strong background in master planning, affordable housing, and client relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and oversee the development of master plans, ensuring they align with community goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement affordable housing plans, including Housing Elements and Fair Share Plans, to address community needs and compliance.
  • Review and assess development applications for land use boards, providing expert recommendations and ensuring alignment with zoning and planning regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, understanding their needs, and delivering tailored solutions. Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and project management.
  • Oversee projects from inception to completion, including submission to clients, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Prepare and testify in support of expert witness reports, Redevelopment Studies, and Redevelopment Plans. Ensure compliance with land use and zoning ordinances.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage junior staff members, fostering professional development and ensuring project success.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Planning or a related field required; Master’s Degree in City or Regional Planning or Urban Design highly desired.
  • PP (Professional Planner) and AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) licenses are required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in municipal planning, land use planning, and/or project management. This includes experience in master plan preparation, affordable housing plans, land use boards, redevelopment studies and plans, and zoning ordinances.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills; public speaking experience; ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with clients, understand their needs, and develop practical solutions.
