Facility Custodian

Principle Function: Responsible to the Facility Manager, who reports to the Business Operations Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining in clean and safe condition surfaces and floors of rooms, offices, and stairways, external property appearance and usable condition of sidewalks, as well as setting up/breaking down tables, chairs, etc. for events.

Internal Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Duties:

• Clean Rooms, Sanctuary, Hallways, Stairways, Bathrooms, staff Kitchen, and Offices (surfaces and floors- dust, sweep and mop, vacuum)

• Sanitize and disinfect surfaces, as necessary

• Replenish consumable supplies in bathrooms, and restock kitchen supplies

• Empty waste receptacles, prepare, and put out trash for NYC Sanitation garbage & recycling pick-up.

• Replace light bulbs

• Perform occasional minor touch-up / repairs, such as painting, spackling.

• Other duties as required.

External Property Upkeep Duties:

• Pick up refuse and keep church sidewalk property neat.

• In collaboration with Facility Manager, prepare and clean sidewalks during snowy and icy weather to provide safe pedestrian passage on sidewalks. Operate salter, snow-blower, or hand tools.

Other Duties:

  • Event Coordination- Speaking with organizers about any concerns and being available during events, especially during set-up and breakdown of basic equipment.
  • Documenting Hazards and any damage to the property daily.
  • Daily walk through of the building and outside grounds.

Required Skills & Qualities:

• Experience with cleaning tools (brooms, mops, etc.), materials, and cleaning methods.

• Ability to learn and use HVAC systems software, and Microsoft Office for communication and recordkeeping.

• Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, and to treat all users of the building respectfully and with a professional demeanor.

Preferred Skills & Qualities:

• Ability to perform minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs.

• Ability to do touch up and finish painting.

• Bilingual English - Spanish

• Must be hospitable.

We are looking for a candidate who is polite, and sensitive to the needs of congregants, children & youth, recovery group members, and to all others who visit or rent our facilities.

Education Requirements:

· High School Diploma or Equivalency

Employment: Full time (40 hours - 5 days/week), and overtime when necessary. Full benefits and paid vacation. Salary commensurate with experience. Usual schedule likely requires one Saturday or Sunday per week.
