Job Summary:

  • To visually examine and physically sort out targeted grades of material and accurately place them in the proper bins according to material type. Be sure to remove out all “other” materials which would be considered contamination. Keeps work area tidy and orderly working in a safe and efficient manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Sort various grades of cardboard and paper into their proper categories effectively and efficiently so as to maximize the value of the products sorted.
  2. Sort various grades of cardboard and paper into their proper categories effectively and efficiently so as to keep sorted stock supplied to the baler in order to enable the baler to continuously operate.
  3. When paper or cardboard products are packaged or bundled in a manner which contains more than one category of product, break open those packages or bundles in an efficient and effective manner and sort the grades of cardboard and paper into their proper categories so as to maximize the value of the sorted products, and so as to keep sorted stock supplied to the baler in order to enable the baler to continuously operate.
  4. At times you may need to cut open bundles, and pull out the string or any other types of garbage which comes up mixed with the paper.
  5. Knowledge of non-recyclable material and removing any material that is not recyclable or is a contaminate in the recycling stream.
  6. Knowledge of other material that is recyclable but must be removed from the paper or containers stream and placed in chute or bunker for recycling in a different area or process.
  7. Ability to lift up to 5 pounds on a consistent basis to remove the materials to ensure proper quality of the product stream.
  8. Working on a sorting mezzanine approximately eight feet above floor grade removing material from a wait high flat conveyor belt.

  • The sorting line job is very important to the operation of the facility to ensure that all materials are completely and properly sorted. The production of our finished products is dependent on a consistent clean source of sorted materials. Our companies reputation is dependent on provide our customers a clean consistent product. We depend on our sorting line team largely to help us obtain that goal.

Job Training, Qualifications, and Requirements:

  1. You will need to be trained in the different grade of paper so that you are familiar and know what material you are to be pulling out.
  2. You will be on your feet (exceptions to be made for specific restrictions to allow for seated work) for your full shift, and be able to bend, twist, and lift.
  3. Must work in range of different temperatures for all seasons.
  4. Must be motivated and work at a steady speed, and cooperate and work well with your fellow employees.


General Conduct, Behavior and Performance

  1. Exhibit good attendance habits. Strive to be at work every scheduled work day unless prevented from doing so for viable reasons of health. If a health condition creates an unavoidable absence preventing an employee from coming to work for the day, the employee is required to call in to report the illness and absence, before the start of their shift.
  2. Exhibit good work habits; avoid late starts and tardiness. Strive to be at work as scheduled, at the proper work station every. Return from breaks and lunches in a timely manner. In the instance of an unavoidable tardy/late start, the employee is required to either previously obtain permission for the tardy/late start, or call in to report the tardy/late start to the H/R office.
  3. Exhibit good work habits; avoid early departures. Strive to be present and productive until the scheduled shift end of each work day. If an early quit is required and unavoidable, the employee is required to notify and obtain permission for that early quit.
  4. Exhibit good work habits such as: productivity, efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness in the job functions. Strive to work at a reasonable pace, stay busy, remain at the assigned work station and job function, and be useful and productive with paid time.
  5. Exhibit good work habits by being a great team member; work well with coworkers, be considerate of co-workers, avoid arguments and confrontations, avoid non-productive or destructive behavior, work well with your supervisor, and constructively taking instructions and carrying out assignments given by your supervisor or a member of management.
  6. Suggest new/alternate methods, ideas, and solutions to contribute to greater efficiency and improved results. You opinion matters
