Job Title: Temporary Railcar Cleaner                       

Department: Mechanical Car                  

Reports to:  Car shop supervisor       

Job Status: Temporary          

Schedule: Varies. M-F, 07:00-16:00 with additional hours as necessary          

Summary:

As directed by the Supervisor, Car Repair, cleaning of railroad rolling stock.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to:

•Cleaning rail cars, including sandblasting.

•Clean and prepare surfaces of railroad cars or cabooses to be painted.

•Adjust loads on car with assistance of overhead crane and/or crane truck.

•Groundskeeping and shop cleaning

•Other non- railcar shop duties as assigned.

•Be able to read and understand safety rules, methods and practices and work procedures.

Physical Demands: 

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the physical demands listed below:

•Frequent: Bending, balancing, walking, standing & sitting. Lift & carry less than 20 lbs.

•Occasional: Push up to 50 lbs., pull up to 100 lbs., entraining, detraining railway equipment, kneeling, squatting, working in restricted areas, climb 12 feet or above, work indoors & outdoors. Be able to lift 25-75 pounds when necessary. Climb ladders/steps – stand on a high structure, be in a confined space, walk on uneven ground.

Environmental:

•Continuous:  Stand on concrete, must wear correct PPE and masks for identified jobs.

•Occasional:  Vibration, noise, hot or cold temperature extremes, work at heights, uneven surfaces, shift work, paperwork, travel, smoke & dust, paint, cramped quarters, moving machinery, wash rail cars outside in all weather conditions.

 Education and Training:

•GED or higher.

•Must have and maintain an insurable driving status which includes but is not limited to NPR driver provisions.
