The Chaplain serves to meet the spiritual needs and interests of the entire care partner team including the residents, care partners and families, as related to resident care; thus, contributing to the overall well-being and healing of the individual. The Chaplain contributes to the care planning with the resident and other care partners with a focused contribution to spiritual assessment and interventions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create an environment that promotes the well-being of all; fight to eliminate loneliness, helplessness and boredom
  • Promote decisions being made by those who live here or those closest to them
  • Recognize interdisciplinary efforts to achieve a successful integration of quality of life and quality of care
  • Embrace The Eden Alternative Philosophy and Principles to ensure that each person's life can fully be enhanced
  • Keep the Elders' preferences and needs at the center of all our decisions, conversations, and actions
  • Effectively advocate for the Elder and helps them achieve the highest practicable physical, mental and spiritual well-being possible
  • Assist with daily life within the neighborhood in a variety of ways such as: helping with fun events, serving meals, spontaneous activities, assisting Elders, leading Learning Circles, and fulfilling daily pleasures
  • Create an atmosphere that is welcoming, relaxed, and relationship-driven and where everyone feels at home
  • Participate in educational offerings that strengthen your personal and professional skills as required
  • Provide timely feedback, data, and education to other care partners to ensure that Eldercare is being provided
  • Provide spiritual and religious leadership and guidance to residents, care partners and families
  • Grow the spiritual care program based on resident input, needs and requests
  • Perform all other duties as requested



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Ministry or related fields, or other qualification such as ordination
  • Two years experience working in eldercare preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in all areas of the facility
  • Moves intermittently during working hours
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc
  • Communicates with facility staff and department supervisors
  • Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:(With or without aide or medical devices)

  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which may include a mental and physical examination.

  • Works in facility and is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch , talk and hear.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted Colorado driver's license
