JOB TITLE: Senior Electrician

DEPARTMENT/SECTION: Engineering

LOCATION: Morton Grove

REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering & Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: Completes duties of an electrician. Works with Project Engineers and Maintenance Advisor to ensure that all electrical systems in the facility comply with the National Electric Code. Works with Maintenance Advisor to develop standards for over-current protection, electrical hardware, PLC programming and electrical documentation.

  • Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment. Works on new installations including power, light, motors, transformers, control panels, relays, and electronic equipment.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots electrical equipment. Diagnoses and determines effective course of action for correcting electrical malfunctions.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks including overhauls and repairs of motors, starters and other equipment.
  • Selects appropriate tools and material for required work. Estimates necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments. Prepares cost estimates as required.
  • Develops innovative solutions to resolve problems and to improve efficiency.
  • Lays out and installs new wiring; runs conduit; pulls, splices and terminates wiring; bends and shapes conduit to specifications.
  • Reads and interprets electrical plans, specification, blueprints and sketches.
  • Member of the fire team. (Morton Grove Only).
  • Thoroughly understands ladder logic and programs and troubleshoots PLCs.
  • Designs, lays-out and prepares sketches and plans in conjunction with Engineers to ensure that all installations conform to the National Electric Code.
  • Reviews electrical systems of new equipment to ensure code compliance.
  • Works with Engineers to drive standardization of electrical hardware, PLC programs, electrical documentation, and over-current protection.
  • Assists in the hiring and training of new electricians.
  • Assists Engineers in selecting and overseeing electrical contractors.
  • Draws from maintenance store all parts, tools and material necessary to carry out any job assignment, giving Storekeeper accurate description, count and job number for such material.
  • Keeps accurate record of time and material chargeable to each separate job.
  • Follows safety policies and maintains good housekeeping in work area. All work performed must meet all applicable federal, state, and local mandates as well as comply with all Company rules and policies.
  • Completes asbestos awareness training, recognizes and informs Supervisor of asbestos hazards to ensure sampling so that appropriate precautions are performed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years experience as an electrician in an industrial environment.
  • Expertise in trouble shooting electrical equipment and systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Must be able to review electrical aspects of new capital projects to ensure that new equipment installations are in compliance with the National Electric Code.
  • Knowledge of UPS systems, emergency generators, fire and security alarm systems, electronic lighting control systems.
  • Knowledge of computer equipment and software applications related to assignment to include: Allen Bradley SLC 504, Micrologix 1500 (minimum 3 years experience).
  • Requires timely decision making and prioritization of work. Must have the ability to organize data and to communicate effectively.

  • Knowledge of medium and high voltage systems.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and foster team cooperation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and take initiative on specific issues.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBLITY QUALIFICATION:

  • Drive compliance of National Electric Code for all electrical installations, including equipment purchased from third party manufacturers and work completed by electrical contractors.
  • Drive electrical compliance with validation and associated document control.
  • Train and instruct others in proper work methods and techniques.
  • Exercise professionalism in dealing with all situations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of Company information.
