Manufacturing Engineer

Primary Function:
Responsible for developing procedures and methods to manufacture new or existing product lines and manufacturing equipment in the most cost effective and safe manner. Supports manufacturing by designing and coordinating the manufacture of fixtures, dies and automation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designs and coordinates the manufacture of fixtures, dies, and automation as needed to support the manufacture of product.
- Investigates, establishes, and implements requirements for equipment, tooling, materials, and methods of manufacturing.
- Establishes production standards and trains personnel in effective, safe operating methods of new or modified equipment and assists with development of work instructions and set-up documentation.
- Develops project budgets and monitors expenses.
- Troubleshoots, identifies, monitors and corrects issues of automation and fixtures.
- Leads and supports various continuous improvement activities and projects plantwide.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Documents all process changes per internal procedures.
- Manages special projects as assigned and participates in meetings as required.
- Creates all process flows, and cell layouts for all new products assigned.
- Supports operations to ensure production equipment is running to established standards.
- Mentors and provides design review for entry level manufacturing engineers and interns.
Required Skill/Knowledge:
Minimum 3-5 years of engineering support in a manufacturing environment. Will consider new grad or early career engineer with solid hands-on mechanical engineering internships, projects or experience. Ability to communicate both written and verbal at all levels of the organization, lean manufacturing principles, blueprint reading, use of hand and power tools. Intermediate level Solidworks, MS Office. Ability to apply analytical/critical thinking in order to perform root cause analysis, ability to manage time effectively and prioritize. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple time-sensitive projects with tight deadlines. Previous experience managing projects and budgets. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Skills/ Knowledge:
CAD, injection molding, plastics, electrical knowledge, PLC programming, Six Sigma Green Belt
Education Level / Required Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or equivalent education and work experience.
Additional Information:
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, sit, walk, stand or balance. May work in tight spaces, climb ladders, stairs. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Exposure to noise and odor of plastic. Requires use of personal protective equipment. Must have own transportation and valid driver’s license for travel between plants. Must be willing to be on call as needed, work weekends or long days as needed. This is a hands-on role with majority of the time on the plant floor. Other duties as assigned.
