SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Perform repairs and prevention maintenance on all company vehicles and equipment. To maintain the garage in such a manner as to ensure a safe workplace, to eliminate hazards, and to meet insurance and other environmental requirements.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  1. Reports to: Senior Mechanic
  2. Directs: None

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains equipment and vehicles to keep them in the best working condition.
  • Performs routine service, diagnostics, and repairs to company equipment.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs repairs on vehicles and equipment as directed.
  • Responsible for the general upkeep of the Cooperative' fleet of vehicles and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains work area and garage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High School education
  • Minimum of three years prior experience required.
  • Class "A" Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Completes Technical Certification in Auto Mechanics or equivalent in manufacturing courses.
  • Ability to perform outdoors, in adverse weather conditions for extended period.
  • Ability to obtain and keep a Commercial Drivers License.
  • Ability to think clearly and must possess sound judgment abilities.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time in confined areas.
  • Ability to bend stoop and stay on feet 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to use tools in rough terrain.
  • Ability to write in a clear legible manner and utilize accounting procedures for proper maintenance of vehicles.
  • Ability to perform maintenance on utility equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed.
  • Ability to lift objects of various sizes and shapes weighing in excess of 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb structures and equipment in excess of 10 feet in height for the purpose of inspection, repair and evaluation.
  • Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain for distances exceeding two miles.
  • Ability to drive trucks and to operate hydraulic and other shop equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain NC Inspection License.

ON THE JOB TRAINING

  • Provides employees with an overall exposure to equipment used and REA Specifications so the employee can move to positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Gains knowledge about all types of hydraulic equipment.
  • Trains when schools are provided by Jones-Onslow EMC.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal working conditions inside and outside of garage building. Regular working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, except company observed holidays.
