SUMMARY 

Position will serve as the Employment Specialist to be responsible for job development and the delivery of employment and educational services to adults who have severe mental illness and/or substance use disorder.  Employment Specialists collaborate with other treatment providers and members of the community to promote long-term success.  Services are based on the eight principles of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported employment, an evidence-based practice that promotes independence and community integration. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  

Engages clients and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings with other workers who do not necessarily have disabilities 

 

Participate as member of treatment team with an emphasis on vocational functioning in recovery and maintains professional working relationships with supervisor and peers for integrated service provisions with other programs. 

 

Design and implement a person-centered service plan for each client looking for competitive work  

 

Develop relationships with employers that focus on learning about the business needs and hiring preferences of employers 

 

Coordinate IPS services with other community services or resources 

 

Help clients search for jobs, provide individualized job supports such as development of resumes and interviewing skills, establish references, assist with job applications and finding job leads and job search with clients. 

 

Spends 65% or more of scheduled work hours in the community (i.e. meets clients at community locations such as home, workplace, meeting with potential employers, library, etc. and/or takes clients to apply for jobs, investigate local GED classes, colleges, etc.).  Required to provide client transportation by using personal vehicle or agency owned van or small bus. 

 

Provide on-going assessment and career development for clients through IPS model (i.e. reviewing work history, interests, and hobbies with clients, development of short and long-range work goals, discuss job preferences, offer to help coordinate education or training for new job opportunities, etc.) 

 

Develop and maintain employment relationships. Meet in-person with business contacts who have hiring authority, utilize several meetings to foster the relationship in learning about the business and the needs/preferences of employers, select business to visit based on the job preferences of clients being seen, etc. 

 

Utilize organizational skills to maintain employer contacts and logs, complete Career Profiles, Individualized Job Plans, up-to-date demographic information of clients, appropriate documentation of all client contacts, etc. 

 

Adheres to agency policy and procedures, CARF and DMHSAS standards and criteria, federal and state confidentiality rules and regulations and any special funding source requirements. 

 

Attending agency staffing and other meetings as specified by the Director (weekly staff meetings, weekly IPS meetings, etc.)   

Supports and promotes a service environment for individuals in need of behavioral health and/or co-occurring services that are recovery focused, welcoming, and attentive to the needs of individuals who may have experienced trauma in their lives.  Attends annual core competencies training in relationship to individuals with co-occurring disorders or who have experienced trauma in their lives. 

 

Reports and documents services in accordance with agency policy and procedures. Adheres to HOPE policy and procedure of having documentation completed by the end of the next business day. 

May be required to work evening or weekend hours. 

Performs other related duties as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High School diploma or GED and minimum one year participation in local or national consumer advocacy or knowledge in the area of mental health recovery. Experience providing employment services and knowledge of the work world are preferred.
