  • Responsibilities:
  • Provide sign language interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, ensuring accurate communication and understanding between students, teachers, and staff.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement appropriate accommodations and support strategies for students with hearing loss.
  • Advocate for the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing and promote inclusive practices within the school community.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interpreting assignments and interactions with students and stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in the educational field interpreting and deaf education.


Requirements
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) or equivalent credentials.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the ability to accurately interpret between the two languages.
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and collaborate effectively with students, educators, and parents.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture, educational terminology, and specialized vocabulary related to academic subjects.
  • Commitment to supporting students academic, social, and emotional development through effective communication and advocacy
