INTRODUCTION
The surgical receptionist assists the surgery department to help improve the quality of communication given to
our clients. The position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common procedures; their
complications, and preventive measures needed during recovery.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Check Call backs for surgeries to check on patients to see how they are recovering
● Check “SA” medical notes and complete them accordingly (Email treatment plan to owner, Vitus vet
the owner to let them know it has been emailed and we will call that day or the next to discuss, call
owner in timely manner and then note can be finalized)
● Be able to make treatment plans for procedures performed
● Be able to call clients to verbally go over treatment plans
● Check the schedule to ensure future procedures that are scheduled have blood work completed and
have a treatment plan that was gone over with the owner.
● Schedule blood work for future procedures that don’t have it completed
● Check vitus vet for client responses (surgery related)
● Know how to email a treatment plan
● Answer surgery phone calls
● Respond to the surgery voicemail
● Be able to schedule procedures and know which doctor does procedure on certain days
● Communicate with and educate owner as instructed
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
● Must be able to operate Cornerstone
● Must be able to operate a telephone and communicate with clients
● Basic knowledge of common procedures
● Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
