Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Determine the appropriate tools and equipment needed to perform a job
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers
- Read blueprints and job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and plan operational sequences
- Set-up and start machines, pull handles, use part fixtures, etc. or use other means to engage feeding, cooling, and lubricating mechanisms, etc.
- Manually position, adjust and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, in fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the grinding process
- Observe the machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions; adjust machines as necessary
- Inspect work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to determine accuracy of machine operation using micrometers, gages, templates or other measuring instruments
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling or cleaning machines, adding coolant to machine reservoirs, etc.
- Performs other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description.
- Must be a “US Person” as defined by US Government and able to work without restriction with ITAR related data.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English at a functional level.

Polishing
- Operate hand or pneumatic tools to remove sharp edges from machined components or contour component surfaces to surface preparation requirements as described by blueprint, sketch or other directions.
- Holds workpiece in such a manner as to prevent damage to the part.
- Decides what manner to finish the part using means of filing, stoning and other methods to achieve the specified finish.
- Develops a process of stoning and using diamond compounds when a mirror finish is required.
- Changes polishing techniques depending upon the properties of the metal being polished.
- May be required to deburr multiple workpieces.
- May be required to run orbital disk grinder.
- May inspect the amount of steel removal using dial indicators, microscopes, micrometers and verniers.
- Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts.
- Change tools on powered equipment as needed
