Summary:

The Truck Associate assists in the pickup and delivery of donations of household merchandise such as furniture, appliances and cupboards. This requires follow safe practices for handling donations and the ability to effectively communicate with donors and express the mission of GMHFH. When not on the truck, the Associate will assist in the warehouse organizing merchandise and loading purchased goods.


Requirements:

Department: ReStore

FLSA Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Monday-Wednesday

Reports To: Procurement Manager

Supervises: This position does not have any direct reports


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Safely transport and load donations from donors’ property into the ReStore truck.
  2. follow best practices for loading donations into the truck to ensure that they don’t shift during transport.
  3. Follow directions from the Truck Driver with regards to donation pickups or additional tasks.
  4. Greet customers and asses the condition of donations that are scheduled to be picked up. Approve or deny donations based on if they are in good, sellable condition.
  5. Impart GMHFH’s mission on donors and provide proper documentation for their donations.
  6. Strictly follow set produces relating to safe vehicle operation or accident reporting.
  7. Assist in keeping trucks well maintained and clean.

Secondary Responsibilities

  1. Attend community and GMHFH events and assist with set up.
  2. Once pickups are completed, assist with warehouse operations, including pricing donations received or moving product.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Desired Education and Experience

  • Experience handling heavy goods and loading goods for transport preferred.
  • High school diploma preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Able to communicate well with staff and donors.
  • Dependable and able to stick to a schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills to respond to any questions or concerns.
  • Flexibility to switch to different tasks quickly.
  • Collaborate with and the assist the Truck Driver with planning and executing pickups.
  • Able to focus on and complete loading of the truck for the entire shift.

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job

Must be able to:

  • Sit for long periods in a truck, repeatedly exit and enter the truck, and quickly switch to moving heavy donations such as furniture.
  • Lift, pick up, carry, place down, and bring upstairs at least 50lbs.

Tools and Equipment to be Used

Must be able to:

  • Answer a phone, use a weightlifting device such as a hand truck, write receipts for donors, use a utility knife to cut various materials such as cardboard, use load straps to secure heavy loads, use a pricing tool to price merchandise, and use GPD software to track truck position and plan routes to pickups.

Work Environment

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions in a variety of environments but will primarily be in a truck, outside donors’ houses, or inside donors’ houses. This position is exposed to a moderate amount of dust and moving vehicles including but not limited to cars, trucks, and forklifts.
