Director of Surgical Services

Salary Range:

  • Mid: $134,659
  • Max: $161,574

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Surgical Services to lead our perioperative team in delivering safe and high-quality patient care. The Director will have 24/7 responsibility for their department, with a case load of approximately 30-35 cases daily, and will focus on effectively managing operations while ensuring an exceptional customer experience in Surgical Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify real/potential problems affecting the service and implement solutions with effective communication.
  • Actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees.
  • Advance the customer experience in Surgical Services.
  • Coach subordinates through feedback, individual development plans, and performance documentation.
  • Effectively communicate departmental, organizational, and industry information to staff.
  • Facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practices.
  • Build strong relationships and networks to deliver organizational and department goals.
  • Participate in employee and patient rounding, identifying and mentoring potential future leaders.
  • Enforce standards of care for surgical services and develop processes for consistent compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing surgical services program ensuring quality patient care.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies for safety and quality.
  • Oversee a Performance Improvement (PI) program that evaluates critical aspects of care.
  • Ensure operational excellence by delivering quality services in accordance with policies and standards.
  • Enforce safety protocols including exposure control plans and procedural site verification policies.
  • Monitor and respond to quality event reporting, supporting new program strategies and enhancements.
  • Develop, prioritize, and defend capital equipment requests.
  • Manage the fiscal operations of the department, ensuring proper utilization of financial resources.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree preferred in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state of practice.
  • Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) certification preferred.
