Acid / Bright Dip Operator

Primary Function:
Removal of all remnants of ceramic material from castings, obtaining a smooth, clean surface.

Tools and Equipment:
Tanks, racks, baskets, tote pans, transfer pumps, personal protective equipment, electonic media.

Material:
Water, aluminum, brass, copper, nitric acid, muriatic acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid.

Direction of Others:
None

Working Procedure:
With the guidance and supervision of the foundry department supervisor,
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.
1 Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
2 Shall consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
3 Shall receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or group leader.
4 Maintain casting batch integrity within the department.
5 Fulfill all Federal and State guidelines pertaining to disposal of spent acids, under the guidance of
the Environmental Specialist.
6 Change solutions as required, remaining cognizant of the useful life of each solution.
7 Shall remain fully aware of the potential hazards inherent in the department, being safety conscious
at all times.
8 Shall maintain all labor vouchers, and files in a clean and orderly condition, where accuracy is
paramount, and enter all required information into the Company software in a timely manner.
Approvals:
9 Shall visually check to verify that all castings are free of surface acid stains before moving parts
to the next operation on the process sheet.
10 Shall maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
11 Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
12 Shall attend and successfully complete training in the proper techniques of lifting.
13 Shall attend and successfully complete lockout / tag out training classes .
14 Shall notify the supervisor, environmental specialist, or ethics officer, when the situation warrants.
15 Shall perform other duties as functionally assigned.

Work Environment:
Must be physically and emotionally capable of wearing a full suit of personal protective equipment
including a full head hood with accompanying respiratory apparatus.
Must be able to tolerate the normal temperature swings typically experienced in a foundry environment.
Must be capable of exercising extreme care while handling potentially dangerous acids.

Special Skills Required:
Must have good working knowledge of personal computers and related software.
Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to perform the physical demands of the job.
No formal educational achievement required.
