Job Summary

Splicers are responsible for installing, preparation, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables. They should have an understanding of the different types of cables, equipment, cable color codes and techniques used for splicing and installing fiber.

General Accountabilities

• Understands industry safety rules and operating procedures.

• Has the ability to work independently without supervision.

• Follow direction regarding customer requirements for completion.
• Must have basic knowledge of fiber and tools necessary for fiber splicing.
• Ability to identify the fiber color coding to tube/fiber range.
• Knowledge of loose tube splicing.
• Inspects cables to locate any issues, understands how to inspect and clean fiber optic connectors.
• Knowledge of cable preparation and fiber placement within splice cases or ancillary equipment
• Complete records documentation such as fiber sequentials and GPS coordinates at each location.
• Understand how to correctly document and label directional ties.
• Must be able to communicate with management, customer and/or homeowners about the project, process and answer basic questions.
• Understands how to install a NID (Network Interface Device) properly.
• Basic knowledge of OTDR, Power Meter, OLTs and Red-Light Trouble Shooting.
• Clean job site during and upon completion of work and properly dispose of debris.

Job Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: A few months to one year of related experience
• CDL or For Hire's License, required.
• DOT Physical, required.
• Must be able to distinguish colors.
• Copper telecom splicing experience, preferred.
