Web Strategy Lead

San Francisco, United States Square Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionCompany Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

The Growth Marketing team is Square’s key growth engine and a sole driver of our holistic public web experience. We are looking for a strategic and experienced Web Strategy Lead to join our team. As the lead web strategist on the team, you will be creative, data- driven, and balance prioritization of near-term growth, while building the web strategy practice with a long-term view.

You will work with peers to create and optimize compelling, effective, and innovative digital experiences that result in impactful experiences for our sellers and growth of the business. This includes being a key leader in designing and optimizing our Square public web experience across all points of the seller journey. It also includes leading the web strategy discipline as it comes to life across other partners such as Product Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Product Management, and Design.

Across projects, you will ensure product, marketing, and business goals are met through our web properties — managing and driving success metrics for the most impactful areas of Squareup.com. You'll do this through a data-driven process; quantitative and qualitative. You will use data analytics, personalization strategies, analytic tools, and automation to help increase demand and strengthen the position of our brand.

You will work with Product Management, Product Marketing, International Marketing, Communications, Brand, Demand Generation, Marketing Analytics, and Creative to build and improve web experiences.

You Will

  • Lead web strategy for Square in partnership with Growth Product and Marketing  to define goals, objectives and KPIs across all of Square’s web surface areas. In partnership with the Product Lead, you will be responsible for hitting key KPIs for Public Web across the entire business; and developing a vision and strategy for the channel that achieves the best seller experience both through short term optimizations and long term growth.

  • Lead and own the web strategy and optimization of our entire global website and all pages, in tandem with the Product Lead and Organic Discovery team. This includes ownership and management of overall site architecture, strategy, information architecture, holistic performance, and page goals.

  • Shepherd best practices based on web tests and overall web strategy best practices across the entire Square org.

  • Partner with SEO on overall site performance, goals, and opportunities to optimize around organic search; including overall site architecture and page content.

  • Collaborate with Product to drive the Public Web team product roadmap

  • Partner with Analytics and Experimentation on web measurement tool strategy, implementation, and usage across the Public Web team to inform broader web strategy and optimizations.

  • Employ a seller-first perspective across all of your strategic work through research and insights. This includes regular user testing, and voice of the customer research to inform design solutions and iterative optimization across the broader team.

  • Leverage analytics to manage performance and identify traffic patterns to improve conversion across the entire site, in alignment with overall marketing strategy and ongoing campaigns. Understand how to diagnose data trends, including including assessment of how/why we are hitting or missing projection and guiding actions to address performance.

  • Develop requirements necessary to deliver the solution and work with technical resources on scope necessary to provide solutions (MVP, trade-offs, balance short- and long-term).

  • Understand basic technical requirements and assist with quality assurance, ensuring consistency of customer experience.

  • Collaborate with direct report and partner teams to ensure that web initiatives are developed and implemented with an eye towards business performance and conversion, while remaining true to Square’s brand promise.

Qualifications

You Have

  • 10-12+ years of experience in web strategy on a marketing team with expertise in web standards and optimization.

  • Significant experience with user testing, identifying target audiences, and leading the development and build of website experiences that inform and motivate users to encourage them to move through the funnel.

Big Pluses

  • Experience working with a product team and product management in a sprint planning and roadmapping capacity

  • Experience in marketing automation tools and SFDC

  • Experience in B2B marketing, with a focus in SaaS

  • Significant experience leading the optimization and experimentation and testing of websites, landing pages, and the user funnel with an expertise in conversion rate optimization.

  • Strong experience working with and managing C-suite level leadership in managing deadlines, strategy, performance, and communication of decision-making at the team level.

  • Strong knowledge of web analytics and goal setting, including expertise with tooling such as Contentsquare, Amplitude, and Google Analytics

  • Working knowledge of front-end and back-end web development and the design limitations and capabilities of both.

  • Expertise in best practices in both strategy and execution for modern B2B websites.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SEO fundamentals and how they interplay with website technology, architecture, and content.

  • Experience leading and managing a team.
