General Description:
Under general supervision of a qualified Dentist in an ambulatory care setting, assesses patient needs, and plans and delivers direct dental care and associated services to patients. Utilizes established dental hygiene procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, radiographs, intra-oral photos and perio charting; takes patient vital signs as required
- Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygienist procedures; performs routine treatment procedures, such as debridement, prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, fluorides, silver diamine fluoride and related procedures
- Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients; performs patient education, discharged planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist
- Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of special test, procedures, and complex treatments.
- Records and provides diagnostic imaging and dental charting for asynchronous telehealth visits.
- Collaborates with the medical department to provide dental screenings at medical well-visits as needed
- Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow-up on results
- Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients
- Makes patient recall calls to fill hygiene schedule when necessary
- Provides input on improvements to current and future recall systems
- Assists in preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process, as required; prepares reports and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties
- Records all patient data accurately and timely into an electronic health record
- Guides the monthly inventory process in respective clinic and assists in order placement for supplies and materials
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene
- Preferred: experience as a Dental Hygienist
- Current and unencumbered Florida Dental Hygienist License
- Current BLS Certification
