Talladega College invites qualified candidates for a Music Instructor/Staff Accompanist.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Possess strong sight-reading ability.
  • Demonstrate technical training and proficiency in piano performance.
  • Accompany solo instrumentalists, vocalists, and ensemble groups.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge and experience in accompanying the various genres of music from classical to 21st century at the college level.
  • Accompany applied lessons, rehearsals, juries, senior recitals, competitions, master classes, and other events as needed.
  • Coach students in one-on-one rehearsals to work with the students to make sure the technical aspects of the musical elements, correcting notes, rhythms, intonation, and providing feedback on music interpretation, character, phrasing, etc.
  • Schedule rehearsals with students.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills verbal and written.
  • Have the ability to work with music and non-music majors and students with diversities.
  • Work closely with and report to the Chair of the Music Department
 Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in music required, majoring in keyboard instruments.
  • Minimum three years of accompanying music students in colleges/universities.
  • Ability to serve as a vocal/instrument coach to prepare students for recitals and juries.
  • Experience or ability to teach class piano (group piano) and other music courses as needed.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to working with colleagues and students, promoting diversity and equity.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent teaching skills, good interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work collegially.
