Practice Medical Assistant/Scribe

Person Group: Practice Employee

Pay: Hourly

Division: Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose: The duties of a Scribe are to document the physician dictated patient history, physical examination, family, social, and past medical history as well as document procedures, lab results, and any other information pertaining to the patient. Medical scribes will work side-by-side with providers to document patient encounters in real-time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Enters the patient room with the physician during patient visits to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing electronic medical record applications.
  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Document any procedures performed by the physician.
  • Prepares and assembles medical record documentation/charts for physician(s).
  • Prepares and sends all documentation to physicians for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures.
  • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Medical Assistant experience
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for
  • safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • Some health or medical-related courses
  • knowledge of medical terminology
  • Upper-level typing/computer skills

  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to perform a wide range of duties and tasks

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (including but not limited to Excel, Word,

PowerPoint, and Teams)

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

At times, the position may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material

weighing up to 50 pounds; at times the position may involve moving, lifting, and carrying

material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; exposure to high

noise levels and exposures to infectious disease based on the nature of the practice.
