Description:
The Senior Application Programmer for Mainframe Systems leads and/or contributes to complex IT applications tasks, including design, development, testing, installation, and support. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and refining system requirements.
- Developing application prototypes from system requirements.
- Designing and planning system architecture.
- Writing, debugging, and maintaining code.
- Designing user interfaces and output formats.
- Testing applications with customers and ensuring software quality.
- Integrating hardware and software components.
- Maintaining program documentation and evaluating new technologies.
- Applying information security policies to application services.
Skills Required:
- Expertise in software development principles for designing, developing, and testing applications.
- Knowledge of operational environments and software design methods.
- Experience in optimizing and integrating system components.
- Understanding of government regulations and database management principles, including:
- Data structures
- Data modeling
- Data warehousing
- Transaction processing
- Familiarity with systems engineering concepts like structured design, supportability, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communication skills.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of seven years in electronic data processing and programming with experience in:
- Languages: COBOL, Natural/SuperNatural, IMS/DB/DC, DB2/SQL, Assembler, SAS, CICS, MF FOCUS.
- Tools/Utilities: MVS JCL, MVS TSO/ISPF, IBM OPTIM, FILE Manager, SPUFI, ICEMAN/ICETOOLS, SORT, VSAM, CLIST, FTP, DYL260/280, CA Gen (CoolGen), CA Endevor, CA Spool, CA OM Web Viewer, IBM Websphere, Debugger, N2O.
- Databases: DB2, IMS, ADABAS, FOCUS.
- Operating Systems: z/OS.
- Other: EntireX, ASP, HTML, Cloverleaf.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in IT or Computer Science, with additional experience considered in lieu of education.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities in a COBOL mainframe environment.
- Experience with IMS batch jobs, IMS DC, CICS, DB2, ADABAS.
- Ability to create and test databases and IMS/COBOL batch jobs.
Additional Information:
- Telework options may be available after successful completion of initial training.
