Position Overview

OE Solar, a premier solar energy developer and engineering firm in New Mexico, is seeking a talented and motivated Solar PV Designer. This role involves working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to design and draft AutoCAD plans, production reports, and cost estimates that not only meet client needs but also comply with codes and manufacturer specifications. The Solar Designer will be essential in preparing and revising commercial, industrial, community solar, and utility-scale plan sets for photovoltaic (PV) system installations and site survey sketches. This position offers an opportunity to engage in high-level design tasks and contribute significantly to the planning and execution of solar projects.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Development and Construction teams to create preliminary and as-built site plans.
  • Design systems in accordance with equipment manufacturer’s installation guidelines.
  • Produce detailed drawings for all aspects of photovoltaic electrical power systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, system grounding design, selection of equipment, DC Stringing wiring diagrams, trench section drawings, inverter layout drawings, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) equipment layout and detailed specifications.
  • Maintain familiarity with a variety of solar components (modules, racking, inverters, etc.) for proper design and installation.
  • Provide conceptual and detailed deliverables based on minimal input from clients.
  • Manage and update a database of design records for future reference.
  • Develop and review bill of materials and specifications as required.
  • Review other designers’ plans for quality and accuracy.
  • Contribute to the development of CAD standards and participate actively in the QA/QC process.
  • Maintain excellent company-client relationships.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision while maintaining high ethical and professional standards.

Required Experience and Skills

  • NABCEP PV Design Specialist (PVDS) Certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in solar, engineering design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of solar technology, main components, and battery storage systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with both internal staff and external clients.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
