POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the Psychologist’s direct supervision and clinical supervision by the psychiatric team and the physical medicine and rehabilitative services director, the Behavioral Health Technician (BH Tech) is responsible for the day-to-day execution of the program and direct behavioral intervention. This includes directly interacting with patients and staff to model and provide appropriate intervention techniques and strategies for patients with intellectual developmental disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as the collection of preference assessments and any additional data required or requested by the treatment team. BH Tech will follow physician and nursing instructions and hospital procedures. Additionally, the behavioral health technician will monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report to clinical staff and will participate in clinical meetings regarding behavior modifications.

JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for implementing behavioral interventions during patients’ everyday individual and program activities.
• Responsible for completing and recording patient daily behavioral logs, Modified Overt Aggression Scales (MOAS), and other behavioral data collection that is requested by the treatment team.
• In coordination with Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) staff and Registered Nursing Staff, ensures patient collection of vital signs, such as temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressures and records as per instruction when needed.
• Communicates with nursing staff to ensure patient fluid and food intake and output are appropriately measured and recorded when needed.
• Works with rehabilitation services on promoting functional independence and assists patients with compliance with activities of daily living. (e.g., bathing, oral hygiene, care of hair, oral feeding, positioning, transfers, etc.)
• In coordination with nursing staff, monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report unusual behavior or physical concerns to appropriate behavioral, medical, and nursing staff.
• Observe and model appropriate behavior to patients, communicate and interact with them, teach, counsel, and guide them toward more independent living and to decrease maladaptive behavioral patterns.
• Encourage patients to develop skills and participate in social, recreational, and other therapeutic activities that enhance interpersonal skills and develop social relationships.
• Collaborate with and assist doctors, psychologists, and rehabilitation therapists working with developmentally disabled patients to treat, rehabilitate, and return patients to the community.
• Aid patients in performing tasks such as bathing and keeping beds, clothing, and living areas clean.
• Can assist in patient emergency situations.
• Practice correct isolation techniques to maintain a safe environment and control the spread of infection
• Exchanges and communicates patient care information upon change of shift.
• Performs walking rounds and provides direct behavioral interventions when needed
• Completes all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Ability to accept direction from supervisors and other management team members positively and professionally.
• Follow all NCH procedures and guidelines
• Be knowledgeable about NCH Neurodevelopmental Program Guidelines.
• Coordinate with all other disciplines to assist in educating patients and providing family training
• Performs other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor level experience preferred
• High school Degree or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
• at least three (3) years of experience in working in an Applied Behavior Analysis setting
• Previous or current licensure as a registered behavioral technician

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
• Certified in SAMA within 30 days of employment
• Certified in AHA BLS
