Job Overview

The Security Monitor plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors during after-school program hours. This position requires vigilance, excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively to various situations. The Security Monitor is responsible for:


 Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Guard students during activities.
  • Remain on premises during program hours.
  • Help with parent pick-up.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Handle youth behavior issues per policy.
  • Patrol campus, ensure locks are secure.
  • Report hazards and security concerns.
  • Always carry two-way radio.
  • Check IDs of unfamiliar visitors.
  • Report accidents to Site Supervisor.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early, leave 15 minutes after last student.
  • Accurately report work hours.
  • Follow all program policies.
  • Accommodate youth with disabilities.
  • Sign in/out on weekly log.
  • Complete required training on time.
  • Wear vendor badge and security shirt (Broward only).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma required; associates degree preferred.
  • Must be able to pass BCPS Level II Background check.
  • Strong oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Creole) is a plus.
  • Certification or training with special needs children preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Available for occasional evenings, weekends, and overnights.
  • Demonstrates high integrity and excellence in work.
  • Capable of working in various situations and with different age groups.
  • Adheres to all program policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:

This position is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
