Job Summary:

The Engineering/Materials Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory throughout all workstations and company logistics addresses by performing regular cycle counts and random part counts. The Engineering/Materials Technician supports the logistics of all engineering changes and ensures availability of all current and future parts.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and evaluates production processes and equipment according to internal and external specifications and requirements.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure process efficiency and initiates process improvement events if applicable.
  • Analyzes processes based on applicable requirements and standards and makes recommendations for modifications or improvements as applicable.
  • Identifies reoccurring issues, assists in root cause identification efforts relating to them and helps devise solutions to prevent them from happening in the future.
  • Triggers rebuilds in the internal production system by notifying the relevant parties and supplies necessary information such as trigger number, built time and shipping time to the customer.
  • Acts as the primary contact between the company and the customer and any external logistics providers to locate missing parts and resolve any inventory issues.
  • Manages inventory of all parts appropriately, enforces all min/max levels for current parts and escalates discrepancies to management as appropriate.
  • Supports PTR trials for future model years as requested by the customer and monitors behavior of new part numbers in the internal production system.
  • Keeps all part numbers current in the internal production system and eliminates and replaces obsolete part numbers immediately and as applicable.
  • Ensures that part number labels are always correct and up to date.
  • Performs formal time studies of production processes to determine improvement opportunities in the line balancing, workload, and other areas.
  • Ensures a consistent flow of incoming production materials for all modules and escalates part shortages and downtime internally as appropriate.
  • Performs part counts as requested by the customer and investigates count discrepancies swiftly and as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to capture and make available technical data to non-engineering staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to solve complex technical and engineering problems independently or in a team.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks according to business objectives and the ability to pursue several objectives simultaneously.
  • Ability to think creatively and manage priorities while working independently with a high degree of self direction and self-motivation.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in an engineering discipline or a comparable field or the equivalent of 5 years in professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment such as technician, mechanic or engineering intern.
  • Experience in the automotive industry preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to spend prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the production floor and facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
