Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), is seeking an individual to work as a Scientific Analyst/Programmer to provide software engineering support to NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Observations (OBS). The individual will provide technical support to the NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Observations, the primary office responsible for the collection of observational data gathered and/or leveraged by NWS. The NWS Office of Observations requires a range of support related to the access, processing, and exploitation of environmental satellite data within the NWS.

This position is located at the NOAA campus in Silver Spring, MD, but is approved for a hybrid model of onsite and telework.


Position Summary:

The Scientific Analyst/Programmer will obtain and work with observation data for the National Weather Service. An analysis of data will be conducted to support decisions by the NWS Office of Observations. All new and updated data will be processed and evaluated for completeness, latency, and suitability for display in AWIPS.


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • MS in Meteorology, Earth Sciences, or Computer Science, or BS with 5 years or more related experience.
  • 5+ years' experience with NOAA observational data
  • 5+ years working in a Linux environment
  • Must have an understanding of Satellite/Meteorological Products
  • Familiarity with AWIPS, Ability to analyze and present data, Spreadsheet/Presentation skills, Oral and Written Communication skills
  • SQL, Python/Java expertise, GIS, Configuration management, technical knowledge of satellite remote sensing and data product formats
