About Queens Community House (QCH):
Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that provides a wide range of programs and services to children, young adults, adults, families, and older adults. Our mission is to equip individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. Serving approximately 25,000 residents annually across Queens, QCH is committed to fostering positive change and empowerment within our diverse communities.

About Queens Childcare Network (QCCN):
The Queens Childcare Network (QCCN) oversees more than 70 NYC DOH-regulated in-home childcare providers throughout Queens. We serve families and children from infancy through age 12, ensuring a safe environment, developmentally appropriate curriculum, and ongoing professional development for our childcare providers. Our mission includes advocacy and support for the families within our network.

About the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP):
The CACFP is a federally funded program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults in participating care centers. QCCN assists in-home childcare providers with enrolling in CACFP, provides ongoing nutrition education, and ensures compliance with all regulatory guidelines.

Position Overview:
The Health & Safety (HS) Monitor is a vital role within QCCN, responsible for ensuring that our affiliated in-home childcare providers meet the highest standards of health, safety, and nutrition. Reporting to the HS Program Coordinator, the HS Monitor will conduct monthly site visits, provide strength-based coaching, and assist with the recruitment and support of childcare providers. This role requires a deep understanding of childcare regulations, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of NYS and NYC in-home childcare health and safety regulations, as well as nutritional guidelines for children from infancy through school age.
  • Conduct monthly visits to affiliated provider homes, using DOE and CACFP monitoring forms to ensure compliance with OCFS/DOHMH regulations.
  • Provide supportive, strength-based coaching and corrective actions following monitoring visits, as necessary.
  • Document all visits and communications with providers promptly, aligning with the Early Childhood Framework for Quality (EFQ).
  • Stay informed about licensing and registration requirements by regularly checking OCFS communications and ensuring all affiliated providers remain in good standing.
  • Assist with the recruitment and affiliation of new family childcare providers.
  • Support the enrollment process of families, including registration, intake, assessment, and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with the Family Worker to connect parents/caregivers with appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Contribute to the creation and updating of a Community Partner Resource Guide for providers and families.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of workshops, special events, and other Network activities.
  • Manage record-keeping activities related to the effective operation of CACFP.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (accepted).
  • Relevant education or training in nutrition, health, wellness, and/or safety (preferred).
  • Fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written (required).
  • Experience in group family childcare or working with infants and toddlers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform duties with discretion, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Queens Community House.
  • Ability to travel efficiently throughout Queens and to work remotely when necessary.
  • Clearance through the NYC DOE Personnel Eligibility Tracking System (PETS).

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and FSAs.
  • Paid Family Leave (QCH supplements NYS benefits to ensure full pay during approved leave).
  • 403b Retirement Plan.
  • Up to 27 days of annual leave (including 17 days in the first year), 12 sick days, and specified federal holidays off.
  • Professional development, training, and networking opportunities.
