Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Flexo Press Room consists of several printing presses. Printing plates for image transfer are provided by the Prepress Department. Film/laminate stock is purchased directly and supplied to the Press Department.
The Press Operator Trainee is responsible for learning all facets of operations on the press that he/she is assigned to operate under the direction of the Press Operator.
Under the direction of the Press Operator, the Press Operator Trainee will learn to ensure the press is made ready for printing. The  Press Operator Trainee will develop the skills necessary for ensuring that all materials and necessary approvals are in place before printing commences that all aspects of product quality printed under his/her guidance. Additionally, the Press Operator Trainee will learn the responsibility of communicating job status, press room needs, and any quality issues to the proper Supervision/Management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Review job/order specifications to determine all specifications (quantity, material type, printing required, special requirements, etc.) needed to make ready and run the job at hand.  This is done via the job ticket.
  • Check for appropriate color, size, style, copy approvals and alert Quality Assurance if approvals are not in place.
  • Apply proper usage of ink, coatings, and other chemicals required to successfully apply ink to paperboard.
  • Detect and correct in-process quality issues; mark loads with questionable quality issues in accordance with work instructions.
  • Report raw material usage, including all waste, and production time via the ASI reporting system.
  • Complete inspection/checks/review of work in process and finished work.  Communicate any issues to management.
  • Communicate all job/order requirements to the press crews; provide specific instructions and leadership to press crews.
  • Communicate job and department status to management; make suggestions/requests for current and future needs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the press. This position is responsible for outlining and prioritizing the necessary approach for ensuring that the presses staying in pristine operating condition.
  • Responsible for inventory and ordering of all necessary consumables and parts required for the entire printing operation.
  • Responsible for outlining direction of activities / requirements pertaining to press room activities.
